Idol Thoughts

“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.” Colossians 3:2,3

The idol was standing there in the trophy case in my heart, right in plain sight, but I didn’t see it.

Like many sins in my life, I overlooked it until the Lord powerfully and painfully shone His light on it.

Each step in the ongoing revival in my life has been like this: God putting His finger on the next area of sin that needs to be surrendered to Him.

Perhaps the reason I didn’t notice this next sin is that it didn’t look at all like an idol. Of course, anything can become an idol:

all I have to do is set my heart on it and declare, “Without this I can’t be happy!”

Knowing this makes idol hunting easier: whenever I’m unhappy, all I have to do is

look at what disappointed me, and there is an idol to repent of and repudiate.

This one was so obvious, so mundane that I’m embarrassed to even mention it, I’ll tell you more about it was tomorrow.
