Powerful and Personal

After looking at the immense hugeness of the universe and the tiny earth tucked under one arm of the milky way, the last two days, now comes the amazing truth that this mighty God stoops down to be involved in our puny lives!

Although you, Lord God,  are so great and we so small,

although you are so powerful and we so weak,

although you are so holy and we so sinful,

yet you proclaim, “I am the LORD your God” (Isa. 51:15a)!

What a wonder, what a joy, what a foundation for life, what a comfort!

You who are so mighty and marvelous,

who manages the magnificent expanses of space,

You stoop down to make yourself our God:

personal, knowable, loveable, trustable.

To have such a great and personal God means an end to fear: the fear of forever.

What you bring to pass will be good in the fullness of time, no matter how it appears in the present. We can praise you now in faith for what you will do.

So as I cry, “Turn to me and have mercy on me; grant your strength to your servant and save the son of your maidservant,”(Psalm 86:16)  I am appealing to the essence of who you are:

the Loving,

Gracious,

Patient,

Faithful God,

who will answer me in my day of trouble.

My part is to cry out to you, to appeal to your character, to your name and to praise you ahead of time for what you will do.

Picture: The Creator of the vast universe reaches down into our lives every day, every moment.
