More on Psalm 43.
Verse 4 says, “He will cover you with his feathers and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.” As we seek our refuge in Him, He personally guarantees His presence and our protection all the time, everywhere. As someone said, “Safety is not the absence of danger, but the presence of Jesus.”
This is followed by an implied “Therefore,” and continues with “you will not fear the terror of the night”—for us this could be terrorists attacking; “nor the arrow that flies by day”—some missile falling from the sky; “nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness”—a chemical attack; “nor the plague that destroys at noon”—a biological attack.
These are the things people fear today—and ones that are a genuine threat to us where we live now—but God is greater than these and we can trust Him to protect us from all He knows to be harmful.
The conclusion is that we are immortal until our work for Him is done (although we should certainly live responsibly, not taking unnecessary risks, like overeating). We do not need to fear death, or troubles, or suffering. When any of those come—and they will—our Father will provide us the grace we need, save us out of it at the right time, and take us home when He is ready! No need to worry, fret or be afraid. Let us live in that assurance of his presence and protection.
