You, Lord Jesus, are the One to be obeyed
because you are wise and good,
and also because you are righteous and just
so you will deal with sin,
you are awesome in your power
and wrath against evil,
as it says in Psalm 97:4-6:
“Fire goes before him
and consumes his foes on every side,
His lightning lights up the world;
the earth sees and trembles.
The mountains melt like wax before the LORD,
before the Lord of all the earth.
The heavens proclaim his righteousness,
and all the peoples see his glory” .
Such a God is to be obeyed for fear of consequences as well as for His great love.
Your hatred of sin is a comfort to those who believe:
there will be an end to evil,
there will be justice,
there will be an elimination of suffering.
And there will be the shelter from your wrath into which you invite all your enemies.
We Praise you for saving us, for bringing us into your shelter.
