Reviews:

Very interesting, entertaining and instructive book. Would recommend it to anyone.

This is a fascinating book--once I started reading I just couldn't put it down. It was inspiring to read of the amazing accomplishments of "ordinary people" in this small New England town. Folks of many nationalities settled and grew up here--many dealing with overwhelming challenges; yet, with God's help, they accomplished great things. One of the nation's early woman doctors; a farm-boy who became a Yale scholar; great war heroes; inventors; politicians; wilderness hunters and trappers; local entrepreneurs and many other interesting characters fill these pages. It made me laugh and made me cry. I highly recommend it!

This book caught me from the first read. I was surprised at the accomplishments of many of these hard-working Yankees surviving hard times and others who went on to invent well known products still used today. There are stories of war heroes, farmers, people whose ways of making a living failed and they just pulled up their bootstraps and went on to start successful businesses. There are stories of those who lived quiet and steady lives, who ended up having an influence on others and Canterbury as a town. A great slice of small town New England h
